Strong Reacion to Madoff Story

Hate him? Feel sorry for him?
Emotions run from one to the other when it comes to Michael Bienes, the South Florida accountant who lead thousands of local investors to Bernard Madoff.

Some reactions I heard:

I read your piece this morning.
i appreciate your very comprehensive work on Bienes.
My take would not be very sympathetic to Bienes and the many greedy individuals and organizations that wanted to be
in a very escoteric partnership with Madoff.
Bienes view of Madoof went from "God" to devil.
Bienes's greed would exclude the average Joe who was yielding 4% on his investment.
His need for exclusivity and class greed has been rewarded
in a just manner.

And:

Bienes was just a plain accountant. Everyone knew that. He didn't know about Madoff. I feel sorry for him.
And

I'm a Catholic and I'm very concerned about the charities. This isn't over yet.

And

Where did the money go?

What's your reaction?

I think that Bienes was just an average accountant who got carried away by greed. Anyone would have done it. We are all human.

I don't feel sorry for any of Madoff's victims. These people all put the status of being a Madoff client above a little common sense research before giving someone else their money to invest.

However, I would like to see some heads on a platter at SEC. As far as I'm concerned SEC investigators are as guilty as Madoff and many bank execs. If this is the best SEC can do to prevent fraud and mishandling of money, they might as well be an eliminated government program.

By rights you can go all the way back to Enron, Tyco, Worldcom etc. for major problems with SEC.

But hey yippee they busted Stewart and Cuban.
