Bike-riding robbers strike in Oak Park

Police say two Oak Park residents were robbed in separate incidents recently when groups of bike-riding teens surrounded them and demanded money or belongings.

One Oak Park youth reported that three teens riding bikes surrounded him and demanded his bike about 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of Lake Street.

At about 7 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of North Harvey Avenue, a man reported that four  teenagers riding bikes surrounded him and said they needed money. They patted him down, searched his wallet and took $3.

Groups of bike riding teens? Where are the police? How difficult is it to apprehend criminals that travel in groups? Too often in Oak Park this type of crime happens.

Well, Oak Park is know for its liberal attitudes, and apparently this is an example of a very liberal expression of the trickle down theory. Hey, the cops can't be everywhere!

Thanks to many Oak Parkers with bleeding hearts these bike riding criminals often get a pass. "They're too young to know what they're doing." Then these bleeding hearts agree to spend money on these kids to give them "something" to do...because their parents haven't been able to raise them and to tell them it's not OK to be a criminal after school--that maybe they should be doing their homework after school. There is no sense of personal responsibility with these hoodlums.

I agree with Doug. Where are or were the Oak Park Police? At the station because they think nothing like this can "ever" happen in the community? A bunch of "punks" riding around on bikes like a pack of Hyena's doesn't arouse any suspicion? Great, that's just great.
