A Chicago man who etched gang graffiti into a jail cell door at the Skokie Police Department was charged with felony criminal damage to state-supported property, police said Tuesday.

Ociel Ramirez-Venzez, 20, of the 6400 block of North Artesian Avenue used a safety pin to scratch the symbols into the cell door late Friday or early Saturday, police said.

Officers noticed the graffiti as they were taking Ramirez-Venzez to the Skokie courthouse for a bail hearing on burglary and battery charges.
