ELKHART, Ind. -- Police have arrested a suspect in the death of a 65-year-old Elkhart man who was dragged by a pickup truck while trying to stop scrap metal thieves.
Twenty-six-year-old Jarrell Lamar King of Elkhart was arrested this morning on a preliminary charge of murder in Theodore Woodward's death.
Woodward died Monday afternoon from injuries he suffered earlier in the day when he was dragged more than 200 feet by a pickup truck.
Police say Woodward tried to stop two men who had broken into a pole barn he owns in Elkhart, but the men ignored him and pulled away in a pickup truck. Woodward grabbed the truck and was dragged about 75 yards when it didn't stop.
A witness saw Woodward fall off the truck and stayed with him until emergency workers arrived.
