Man struck by Red Line train

A man was struck by a northbound CTA Red Line train at the Cermak-Chinatown station shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The man was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, said Kevin MacGregor, a Fire Department spokesman.

Police said it appeared the man had fallen off the platform accidentally.

Power was briefly cut to the station, halting train traffic in both directions for about 10 minutes, said CTA spokesman Sheila Gregory.

Gregory said trains bypassed that station while police investigated the incident, but by about 8 p.m. service returned to normal.
