Following a high-speed police chase, three people were hurt early Wednesday when a stolen car struck two other vehicles outside Midway Airport.

Willow Springs police took a 47-year-old man, the driver of the allegedly stolen car, into custody, Chicago police said. Willow Springs police could not immediately release further information.

The crash occurred about 1:30 a.m. in the 6300 block of South Cicero Avenue (map), outside the southeastern corner of the airport.

One witness said he was traveling north in his car on Cicero when he saw a 2005 black Dodge Neon speeding south with a number of squad cars in pursuit. A short time later, the witness said, the car zipped past him, followed by the squad cars.

As the witnesses' car approached 63rd Street, he said he saw the aftermath of the crash.

The pursuit was confirmed by a law enforcement source, but a Chicago police spokesman could not say what happened prior to the crash.

In addition to the driver of the stolen Neon, the drivers of the vehicles that were hit, a 2002 Ford Escort and a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Chicago police. Their injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police cordoned off Cicero between 63rd and 59th Streets, where the Neon was smashed against the barrier wall of the airport.
