Amtrak is working with the owners of the affected routes to restore normal service as soon as possible, a spokesman said.
Amtrak urged passengers with travel plans in the affected states to call 1-800-USA-RAIL to confirm the operation of their trains and the status of alternate transportation.
List of cancellations:
--Lincoln Service and Texas Eagle, Chicago-Springfield-St. Louis
Only Train 300 was operated to destination on Sunday. Other trains were cancelled or terminated in route, with alternate transportation.
A decision regarding service on Monday, September 15, will be made later this evening.
--Wolverine Service, Chicago-Detroit-Pontiac; Pere Marquette, Grand Rapids-Chicago and Blue Water, Port-Huron-Chicago
The Amtrak Wolverine Service (Trains 350-355), Pere Marquette (Trains 370 & 371) and Blue Water (Trains 364 & 365) were either cancelled or terminated in route, with alternate transportation, on Sunday.
Trains 371 & 365 are cancelled for Monday. A decision will be made later this evening regarding other trains serving Michigan.
--Missouri Mule Service, Kansas City-Jefferson City-St. Louis
Trains 311, 313, 314 & 316 were either cancelled or terminated in route, with alternate transportation, on Sunday.
A decision regarding service on Monday will be made later this evening.
--Overnight trains
The Amtrak Capitol Limited, Trains 29 & 30, which ordinarily operates daily between Washington, D.C. and Chicago, is cancelled in both directions, effective Sunday. Alternate transportation to and from Pittsburgh will be provide by Trains 42 & 43, the Amtrak Pennsylvanian.
The Amtrak Lake Shore Limited, Trains 48 & 49, which ordinarily operates daily between New York and Chicago, is cancelled west of Albany-Rensselaer, N.Y., in both directions, effective Sunday, with alternate transportation to Buffalo.
The Amtrak Southwest Chief, Trains 3 & 4, which normally operates daily from Los Angeles to Chicago, will originate and terminate in Kansas City, rather than Chicago, effective Sunday.
The Amtrak City of New Orleans, Trains 58 & 59, which ordinarily operates daily from Chicago to New Orleans, will originate and terminate in McComb, Mississippi, through Tuesday.
The Amtrak Texas Eagle, Trains 21/421 & 22/422, which ordinarily operates daily from San Antonio to Chicago, will operate only between San Antonio and Fort Worth, with alternate transportation to Dallas, through Tuesday.
The Amtrak Sunset Limited, Trains 1/421 & 2/422, which operates between Los Angeles and New Orleans, will originate and terminate in San Antonio, rather than New Orleans, through Thursday.
