Four teens were injured this afternoon in a melee at the Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee, police said.

Two of the teens appeared to have cuts on their abdomens or chests that may have been caused by "a knife or some sort of sharp object," said West Dundee Police Chief David Sawyer. The others appeared to have been struck by something, he said.

The fight started about 12:45 p.m. inside the mall between the four teens and a group of 8 to 10 other people, then spilled outside. When officers arrived, they found the four injured teens lying in a parking lot near a restaurant, Sawyer said.

"We don't know if the knew each other, but they obviously didn't like each other," Sawyer said.

Two of the injured teens were taken to Sherman Hospital and Provena St. Joseph Hospital, both in Elgin. None of their injuries appears life-threatening, Sawyer said.
