A traffic accident shut down the three eastbound lanes of the Reagan Memorial Tollway (Interstate Highway 88) near Naperville for about two hours Wednesday. The Illinois State Police said the lanes were re-opened at 5:06 pm. The accident remains under investigation.
Eastbound traffic passed the accident scene on the shoulder of the tollway between Naperville Road and Illinois Highway 53, according to a bulletin released Wednesday afternoon by the City of Naperville.
Illinois State Police said the accident occurred at 3:11 p.m. and involved a collision between a semi-tanker and a car. The car had to be cut open to rescue its three occupants, and all three were taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, said a state police trooper.
Westbound lanes were not blocked, the city said.
