Judges give all 12 Boca young entrepreneurs seed money
In a surprise conclusion that added a donated $3,000 to the coffers, all 12 kids got the start-up money for their new or existing businesses from judges at the investment panel for the Young Entrepreneurs Academy.
The pot was already at $5,000 for seed money when the judges emerged from a 40-minute session to announce that they couldn’t decide on a winner, so they would give everyone what they requested.
“You will all go home winners. It’s was the power of your persuasion and the power of your passion and enthusiasm,” said Cheryl Budd, a judge and chairwoman of the board of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the program.
Positive Pocket founder and owner Rebecca Zerbo was picked to represent the Academy in Rochester N.Y. next month to compete as a Saunders Scholar Semi-Finalist. Zerbo goes to Eagles Landing Middle School in West Boca and will take her mom, Laura, an Olympic Heights High School teacher and one of this year’s Dwyer Award special program nominees.
