Firefighter, Explorer promotions, awards

The auditorium at the 6500 Congress Ave. building was filled with family, friends and co-workers as Fire Chief Thomas R. Wood presented badges to five members of the department who were promoted.
They were, from left in the photo, Mike McBrien, fire captain; Shea Miller, paramedic lieutenant; John Gibson and Jose Santana, driver engineers and Joe Ildefonso, fire prevention officer.
Chief Wood also gave the Excellence Award to Firefighter/Paramedic Scott Hauss for his assistance in the Florida DMAT, which responded to the aftermatch of Hurricane Sandy in New York.
Assistant Fire Chief David Woodside, not pictured, received an Excellence Award for his asistance getting supplies to Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake. Woodside was also recognized as 2012 Fire Marshal of the Year for the state of Florida.
Boca Raton Fire Explorer Chief Nick Galiardo was given the Citizen Award for giving first-aid to man found laying in the middle of a roadway before the arrive of rescue crews.
