Coconut Creek Celebrates Arbor Day with Two Events
Coconut Creek will be celebrating Arbor Day in two stages – a tree planting and a free tree giveaway. On Thursday, April 26, city commissioners will have a tree planting ceremony at Coconut Creek High School, 1400 Northwest 44 Avenue.
Two days later, from 8 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, April 28, the city is sponsoring their 12th Annual Free Tree Giveaway, where free trees are given to Creek residents. Residents will have a chance to learn about trees, butterfly gardening, wildlife habitat gardening, proper tree pruning, native plants, the use of rain barrels by attending a series of educational booths before picking up their free tree and plants.
Several different species of trees will be available including Pigeon Plum, Live Oak, Southern Red Cedar, Gumbo Limbo, and Silver Buttonwood. Master gardeners will be around to answer questions. Trees are available on a first come, first served basis while supplies last at City Hall, 4800 West Copans Road. Residents need to bring identification, like a drivers license or water bill.
