International artwork installed in Coral Springs
Residents and visitors alike will be greeted by a new public art piece when driving through Coral Springs. The artwork was recently installed at the northeast corner of Riverside and University drives.
Italian artist Marialuisa Tadei hand-sculpted the mosaic piece titled “Donna Dal Futuro,” or “Woman of the Future.” The sculpture stands over 16-feet high, 7-feet wide and 2-feet in depth and is made of steel, fiberglass and approximately 18,000 hand-cut and hand-mounted glass mosaic tiles.
Tadei has displayed her work in Italy, Germany, Slovenia, the Netherlands and the United States. The city’s public art committee selected her as the qualified artist for the entranceway project in 2006.
For details on the artwork or the public art program, call Jim Hickey, chief planner, at 954-344-1158 or e-mail jhickey@coralsprings.org.

I can't believe this is going to stay there. When I saw it the first time, I actually made my husband and daughter go look. It is an eyesore.

I hope this was donated and that our tax dollars didn't pay for this monstrosity? I heard someones child is having nightmares from it, the called it a monster's eyeball. I believe a few yards south which has the original basic Coral Springs sign is a better welcome to our city. If we did pay for it then Why not invest in putting some sidewalks in for our city's children instead? Maybe if the "art" was presented in reserved area with others pieces of art it would make better sense. Such as throughout the shopping area in The Walk with the artists information. But scattering them randomly throughout our city just doesn't make a whole lot of sense....does anyone agree???

I disagree, I think it's beautiful, I think that Coral Springs should hire several artists to decorate the new rubber speed bumps that adorn our city streets or perhaps to enhance the street signs that are now implanted every 15ft. on Shadowood Dr. or perhaps the mosiac chips could frame the hundreds of "For Sale" signs that have popped up in our neighborhoods. We need more art work to take the place of all the businesses that have closed their doors because of the high taxes that helped to pay for these lovely enhancements to our city. Keep those sculptures, speed bumps and signs coming! I may have a suggestion as to where you can place the next street sign, speed bump or sculpture.
