Replacements for suspended commissioners to be named Friday

The two people replacing suspended Coral Springs commissioners Vince Boccard and Tom Powers will come from among Bill Stradling, Ted Mena, David Hulett, Dave Esposito, Michael Singer and Maureen Berk.

Mayor Scott Brook
, Vice Mayor Claudette Bruck and Commissioner Roy Gold, who will pick the replacements, whittled the list from 48 to 11 and then to six. The final shortlist has three former city officials – Stradling, Mena, and Berk, and three first timers. The commission will meet again tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. to complete the process.

Although Gold was in favor of taking a decision after hearing from 5 to 6 people, the commission decided to give all the applicants who had turned up one minute each to speak. The commissioners then made their individual shortlists of up to 12 applicants. Applicants who made it to the shortlist of at least two commissioners then made the list of 11.

The person appointed to City Commission Seat #2 will serve until Boccard is either returned to office by the governor or until November 2010, whichever comes first. The individual appointed to City Commission Seat #5 will serve until Powers is either returned to office or until November 2012, whichever comes first.

Boccard and Powers were suspended for allegedly violating the Sunshine Law.
