Parkland achieves greenway dream

Parkland has acquired the “Beaty parcel” adjacent to the Equestrian Center.

The city had attempted to purchase the property a few years ago but the asking price was in excess of $6 million. Recently the parcel became available and the city took immediate action, purchasing it for less than $2m. This was the only piece of land that precluded the city from completing its lineal park on Holmberg Road that starts at the Equestrian Center and ends at the City Hall complex.

The city will not rush into development of the newly purchased land. The purchase was accomplished without any additional debt to the city, with the money coming out of the city’s general funds.
