'The Mother of All Baby Showers' returning to Davie

The second annual “The Mother of All Baby Showers” is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 at Young At Art Museum, 751 SW 121st Ave. in Davie.

Jenn Brown, two-time Emmy Award-winning sports broadcaster, host of NBC’s "American Ninja Warrior" and an expectant mom, along with Emmy-winning producers and authors of "Sh*tty Mom," Mary Ann Zoellner and Alicia Ybarbo, will be in attendance.

The event offers an opportunity for parents to prepare for the arrival of a new baby by learning some of the parenting basics and researching the many choices they will encounter as consumers.

Destination Dad, a new addition to the event, is dedicated to education and entertainment. The evening also includes a pampering suite, tasty treats from local businesses, The Mother of All Swag Bags, giveaways and more.

Tickets are $15 for regular admission and $25 for advanced admission. Advanced admission is limited to 150 people and includes four tickets to Young At Art, early admission at 5:30 p.m., and a special swag bag. Visit www.sflmotherofallbabyshowers.com.

Davie art museum accepting submissions for awards

Young At Art Museum in Davie is accepting entries for the art category of the national 2015 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards through Dec. 17.

Students in Broward County currently enrolled in grades 7-12 can compete for scholarships and have their works exhibited locally and nationally. Works can be submitted in multiple art categories, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, video game design and digital media.

Food truck event set in Davie

The first Friday of the month means it's time for the monthly food truck event at Flamingo Gardens, 3750 S Flamingo Road in Davie. The event will be from 5-9 p.m. Oct. 3.

DJ Mike spins the tunes while the Pine Island Express band will strum their stuff in the courtyard for free. 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida animal rescue will be on hand with dogs to adopt.

Admission into Flamingo Gardens is $5 after 4 p.m. Last tickets are sold at 7 p.m., and the gardens will close at 7:30 p.m. For more information and the food truck lineup, visit http://www.flamingogardens.org/Events.html.

Nonprofit hosting celebrity culinary and wine experience

The Davie-based I Care I Cure Childhood Cancer Foundation will host the second annual Celebrity Chef Culinary & Wine Experience at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26 at Marlins Park in Miami.

The event will help generate awareness and funds for research for targeted and gentler cures for childhood cancer. Festivities will include a two-hour cocktail reception on the Skyline Terrace starting at 5:30 p.m. and featuring interactive chef demonstrations.

These include Michael Moran from Aspire Catering, Angelo Elia of Casa D’Angelo, Sparky’s Barbecue, Susie’s Scrumptious, Sean Fortune from Sea Level at the Marriott Harbor Beach and Crepemakers. Andrew Lampasone of Wine Watch will host as the master sommelier with wine tastings, and Deep Eddy Vodka will provide its signature beverages.

A VIP dinner will follow featuring live cooking demonstrations, a silent auction, a raffle and more. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.

Davie museum's new traveling exhibit revealed

Science and art come alive this fall as Young At Art Museum presents "ColorFest: A Celebration of the Art & Science of Color," running from Oct. 11-Jan. 4 at 751 SW 121st Ave. in Davie.

At its core is "Color Play," a national traveling exhibition by Clifford Wagner Science Interactives that will feature an array of hands-on, color-themed activities and educational games from dancing to the rhythms of moving lights to uncovering hidden objects in the Black Light Room.

The exhibit will include 14 activities that examine how white light is made of colors, how colors are mixed for different media, how color is perceived, what ultraviolet light does to color, what really makes up a prism, the workings of a giant kaleidoscope and more.

Young At Art will add its own creative spin to ColorFest by hosting special programs, events, solo artist exhibitions and special guest artist presentations.
