Cooper City road closed for power pole replacements

Florida Power & Light will be replacing electrical power poles on Southwest 106th Avenue in Cooper City, causing the road to be closed for three days.

The power company will have to close it between Griffin Road and 48th Street from about 9 a.m. until about 4 p.m. through Wednesday, barring any complications. Afterward, FPL will have intermittent lane closures to transfer wires to the new poles but will not have the entire road closed.

There will be a detour route and traffic flaggers to assist motorists. Drivers affected by this closure are encouraged to seek an alternative route and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

A detour map can be found at www.coopercityfl.org.

The David Posnack Jewish Day School will break ground on a new building for its Paul & Maggie Fischer High School this month in Davie.

The school's planned 50,000-square-foot home will also house Ram Gym, a new gymnasium and athletic facility. The expansion comes amid celebrations of Posnack's 40th anniversary and in response to growth in enrollment, particularly in the upper school grades.

The new building will be at the north end of the campus, bringing together all Posnack school buildings in one place. The new Fischer High is scheduled to open its doors for the 2015-2016 school year.
