ALS Super Ice Bucket Challenge in Davie to include Red Power Ranger

You can take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge with Austin St. John, who played Jason on the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," during a fundraising event set for 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at Past Present Future Comics, 5917 S. University Drive in Davie.

Dump an ice bucket on St. John's head for a $25 minimum donation or take the challenge in a group with him for a $5 minimum donation. The actor will also be signing autographs and doing photo ops for additional donations. Proceeds will go to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association.

Florida Supercon will also have items on sale, with proceeds benefiting the charity, and the store will be donating 20 percent of all sales. Residents are invited to bring their own bucket to have initialed by St. John. Buckets will also be on hand to use or to purchase for an additional donation.

Beer pong tournament for a cause in Davie

Tim's Army is hosting a fundraiser 7 p.m. today at Cowboys Saloon, 1805 S. University Drive in Davie. Tim Eckinger, 31, was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer. The group hopes to raise money for the father and husband through a beer pong tournament.

The cost to enter is $30 per team, which includes unlimited draft beer until 10 p.m. You have to be present at 7 p.m. to sign up. The winner of the tournament gets $200 and second place receives $100. Festivities also include a 50/50 raffle for prizes, including a stay at the Hard Rock, an autographed Miami Dolphins jersey and more.

Food trucks pulling into Davie next week

Flamingo Gardens is hosting its First Friday Food Truck event from 5-9 p.m. Sept. 5 in the facility's parking lot, 3750 S. Flamingo Road in Davie.

DJ Mike spins the tunes, and the South Florida Bluegrass Asscociation band Dusty Road Rangers will perform in the courtyard.

Parking and admission are free for the food trucks and concert. Admission into Flamingo Gardens is $5 after 4 p.m. Last tickets are sold at 7:30 p.m., and the gardens will close at 8 p.m. For more information and the truck lineup, visit http://flamingogardens.org/Events.html.

Active Parenting of Teens series set in Davie

A six-session Active Parenting of Teens series is set for 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. starting Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Indian Ridge Middle School's media center, 1355 S. Nob Hill Road in Davie.

Food drive planned in Davie

Jewish Family Service of Broward County's Leadership Board is hosting a food drive from 4-6 p.m. Sept. 21 at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center, 5850 S. Pine Island Road in Davie.

Organizers' goal is to collect a large amount of non-perishable food items, as well as supermarket gift cards, to distribute to families who are dependent on JFS to eat on a month-to-month basis. All donated items must be kosher.

There will be pizza at the event, as well as activities for kids and adults, including decorating brown bags, an art contest, writing notes to recipients and filling brown bags with collected food items.
