King of the Hill Run set in Davie

The King of the Hill Run Challenge and Color Run takes place Sunday, Aug. 31 at Vista View Park, 4001 SW 142nd Ave. in Davie.

This is a 5K and 8K run through the hills of the park. The course is paved asphalt. The park's regular weekend and holiday gate entrance fee of $1.50 per person (children 5 and younger get free) will be in effect.

Cooper City wants your mementos

Have any photos, documents or mementos from Cooper City prior to 1980?

If so, the Cooper City Historical Collection Committee wants to see them Sunday from 1-4 p.m. during the open house of the historical room at the Pool and Tennis Center, 11600 Stonebridge Parkway.

Volunteers will be available to scan photographs and documents and accept donations. Refreshments will also be served.

The committee hopes to build its collection and preserve the past for future generations.

Davie golf club hosting Key West Day event

Davie Golf and Country Club is hosting a Key West Day celebration on Saturday, July 26 at 8201 Nova Drive.

They're throwing out the dress code and welcoming golfers dressed in flowered shirts and other tropical attire. A free golf game will be awarded to the best Key West-style outfits worn by a male and female golfer.

It will also include a contest drawing for a two-night stay at the Marriott Beachside Key West. The winner will also get a special discount at the Key West Golf Club.

Golfers also can enjoy free margarita-style drinks and free conch chowder. Tee time reservations are available at 954-797-4653.

Davie store hosting lobstering class

Divers Cove in Davie is hosting its annual lobstering class at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 25 at 2335 S. University Drive.

Lobster mini season opens at midnight July 30 and runs through midnight, July 31. Regular season opens the following Wednesday, Aug. 6.

This class gives participants the opportunity to learn how to hunt lobsters or to refresh their skills. Cost is $25.

Davie preschool expands

Young At Art Museum in Davie has announced the expansion of its licensed preschool program to include a new classroom and an additional 17 children.

The preschool, which just graduated its first class, now will accommodate a total of 39 children, and registration is open for the 2014-15 school year.

The art and literacy program focuses on museum exploration, interaction with the in-house library branch, special guests and each month has a different art theme focused on a particular artist.
