An ad was placed in a local paper 10 years ago, at the request of the Davie Town Council, that read, “Any thespians out there?”
It brought together a core group of eight men and women who began rehearsing scenes from internationally famous plays, with the intent of eventually putting on a performance. Soon others joined the group, and the town's first community theater was born.
The Actors Community Theater selects three plays each year to perform. The group is funded by the town, and performances are staged at the Pine Island Multipurpose Center, 3801 Pine Island Road.
Information about all performances is posted on the town's website, www.davie-fl.gov. Click on the Special Events Calendar on the front page.
The first performance of the season is "An Inspector Calls," by J.B. Priestly. Based on a famous stage play and set in the year 1912, an upper-crust English family's dinner is interrupted by a police inspector who brings news that a girl known to everyone present has died in suspicious circumstances. It seems that any or all of them could have had a hand in her death.
Performances will be at 8 p.m. Nov. 20 and 21 and 2 p.m. Nov. 22.
Tickets are $12 at the door, $10 in advance and $8 for groups of 10 or more. For more information, call 954-797-1153.
