Davie resident hosts "A Night of Laughter" at Improv for charity
The Debbie’s Dream Foundation staged the “A Night of Laughter” fundraising event at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s Improv Comedy Club.
The sell-out event, co-chaired by Gail DelGaudio and Katie Beinfest, attracted more than 400 and raised almost $7,000 for the nonprofit.
The money garnered goes to grants for stomach cancer research at health-care, education and medical research facilities throughout the United States.
Headlining the evening was famed comedian Al Jackson.
“There’s no better cure than laughter, and we laughed a lot at the Improv,” said DDF's founder and president, Debbie Zelman.
For Zelman, of Davie, the cause comes close to home as she was diagnosed with Stage IV advanced, incurable stomach cancer in April 2008.
Zelman was told her chances of being alive in five years were less than 5 percent.
In April, she founded DDF, which seeks to help finding a cure a reality.
