Journey Through Paradise Begins With a Single Step: Register to March in the Parade
With the Founders' Days Celebration just 14 days away, Deerfield Beach officials are reminding residents that the window of opportunity for registering to march in the 66th Annual Founders' Days parade is is narrowing. The parade, on Saturday, February 16, begins at 10 a.m., and the link to register is on the city's web site. The theme this year: Journey through Paradise. Awards will given in 15 categories ranging from best youth marching group to best historical entry.
This year, paraders will assemble at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, February 16 at Pioneer Park, and march from Pioneer Park east on Hillsboro Boulevard, north on A1A, past the pier, then south, along the beach. The awards ceremony will be at the beach with trophies presented in each of 15 categories. Parade applications must list the category for which the applicant wishes to be considered for a trophie, as well as names of those to be acknowledged and other information about the entry should it win.
You don't have to wait until Saturday to enjoy the celebration, however. Festivities begin February 14, with a family carnival, and continues through February 17, with a motorcycle show, live entertainment all weekend, and a grand fireworks display on Saturday at 9 p.m.Food booths, arts and crafts continue throughout the four days, with free parking and trolley pick-ups available at: The Cove Shopping Center, 1500 E. Hillsboro Blvd. and on the east side of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 363 S.E. 12th Ave.
