Mayor Unconcerned about Blogger's Charge of Withholding Public Records
Mayor Jean Robb said Tuesday she has complied with blogger and activist Timothy “Chaz” Stevens' request for e-mails.She says his lawsuit charging her with withholding public records is misdirected.
“I transfer all the e-mails that I get for mamamayor to firstname.lastname@example.org," she said, "so it is the IT [city information technology] department that gives him the emails. I don’t have to.”
Stevens had requested e-mails for a given period and says he was provided with, “for the entire 39-day period, … seven e-mails.”
Stevens then made an identical request to the Deerfield Beach city clerk. “They gave me 466 pages,” he said, leading him to file a lawsuit in Broward County’s 17th Judicial Circuit. In it, Stevens charges Robb with withholding public records, a first degree misdemeanor punishable by impeachment under Florida Statute 119.
Robb says she is unconcerned because Stevens should have directed his request to city hall. “I don’t think the man understandds that I don’t personally give him the e-mails,” she said.
