Dust off that Instrument and C'mon Down
North Broward instrumentalists of all abilities and of any age are invited to audition for the Florida Intergenerational Orchestra, beginning its ninth season October 3 in Boca Raton. Open rehearsals on Thursday, October 3 and October 10, are a chance to show up with an instrument, or wet a reed, and bring a love of music. The non-profit orchestra includes musicians from ages 10 to 94 and, last year, was honored by the State of Florida, Department of Elder Affairs for its intergenerational concept -- winning grants from IBM, the Junior League of Boca Raton, The Behar Group and BankUnited. Last year’s concluding concert featured a singer, a comedian, a magician and a full symphony orchestra concert, as well as a performance by a chamber ensemble. This year, the organization introduces the Youth Scholarship Audition on October 3 and October 10, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Regular players will rehearse at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Boca Raton’s O’Shea Hall, 22094 Lyons Road in Boca Raton.
