Registration opens for free credit counseling and first-time homebuyer's workshop

The first thing to know about United Financial Counselors is that it is a completely non-profit organization established to raise the level of financial literacy in this area. It offers programs designed to help everyone from teens in high school to senior citizens on social security learn how to reduce debt payments, reduce interest rates, stop fees and penalities and reestablish a credit rating.
The organization is hosting a First Time Homebuyer and Credit Restoration Expo from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, at the Deerfield Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, 100 Fairway Drive. People who rent and have the vision and drive to become homeowners, as well as people seeking to improve their credit scores, are invited to learn their credit scores without paying the usual fee associated with obtaining it, then a credit counselor will talk with them about how to increase their credit score. In addition, attendees can meet with mortgage brokers, loan originators, realtors, inspectors, representatives from Florida Power & Light, local small businesses and real estate professionals.
Seminars running throughout the day focus on topics such as credit restoration and home buying programs. The program is free, but registration is required. For information, see the City of Deerfield Beach web site. To register, call 786-288-5320.
