Woman's Club wants to accommodate working women

For a club with a long tradition of day meetings, evening meetings are no small change. This month, however, the Deerfield Beach Woman's Club will, for the first time ever, host an evening meeting.

Longtime member Barbara Moriarty said she is trying to get the word out that the Woman's Club is trying to accomodate the needs of working women.

"The daytime meetings will remain the same," Moriarty said. "An evening group is so that women who cannot attend the daytime meeting will have an option."

The club is dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service. In nearly a hundred years of meetings in Deerfield Beach, it has raised money and funded scholarships for area high school students, and contributed to the American Cancer Society.

The club typically meets on the second Tuesday of the month, from September to May, for a 1 p.m. meeting.

But with more women working days, the club is seeking to better embrace working women.

"Not that many clubs have tried it yet, but it has been done," Moriarty said.

The GFWC Woman's Club of Deerfield Beach evening group will meet at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the clubhouse, 910 E. Hillsboro Blvd. For information, contact Barbara Moriarty at, or at 954-428-1947.
