Delray Fire-Rescue responds to a 10-foot fall at construction site
Left, Delray Beach Fire-Rescue Officer Russ Accardi talks with local television news crews after a man fell from a building under construction in downtown Delray Beach.
A construction worker fell from the roof onto a concrete floor at the Seagate Hotel & Spa building being built at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Gleason Street in downtown Delray Beach.
Russ Accardi of the city's fire-rescue department said the call was dispatched at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17.
The man who fell was in stable condition after suffering spinal injuries, Accardi said Wednesday. His fall was estimated as a ten-foot drop on the building's fourth floor. Rescue personnel stabilized the man using a backboard and neck brace.
“He fell through an open area on the roof to the floor below,” Accardi said.
Accardi said a tow basket and two ladder trucks were used in the rescue. Fire-Rescue crew members made it to the man on the fourth floor by using the fire ladder to get in from a high angle, he said.
