Financial advisor Colleen Hasey Schuhmann visits St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic School during Financial Literacy Month

Colleen Hasey Schuhmann helped St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic School students with their future finances during an April is Financial Literacy Month appearance at the campus. Schuhmann is one of the parents at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic School, 810 NE Eighth St.

Schuhmann is also a financial advisor with UBS Financial Services in Boca Raton. During her presentation she spoke to the fifth-, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders.

She discussed the dangers of credit card debt, explained how to create a budget and talked about the importance of saving for the future. Schuhmann said that this is the third year that she has volunteered her time to speak with the students about financial literacy.

"Making well-informed decisions about money is a key life skill that we all need to teach our youth. Unfortunately, personal finances are not typically taught as part of the normal academic curriculum," she said.

A school official said via email that St. Vincent Ferrer School is grateful to Schuhmann for helping to teach these valuable skills to their students.
