Billion Calorie Count-UP this Wednesday in Worthing Park
In conjunction with National Walking Day, the American Heart Association will launch its Billion Calorie Count-UP, and in Delray Beach that means treadmills in Worthing Park, 150 E. Atlantic Ave.
The event is at noon Wednesday, April 4.
"We have an event that’s going to take place in downtown Delray across from The Gym with people walking on treadmills, gathering walking information, etc. It coincides with the national initiative taking place," said Kristen Cruz, the marketing and communications director for the South Florida, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties American Heart Association Greater Southeast Affiliate.
Billion Calorie Count-UP is a multi-year, nationwide challenge to get Americans to collectively burn 1 billion calories by the year 2020. Americans can get involved and contribute their calories by signing up to participate in their local Heart Walk at Heart.org/MyHeartMyLife.
"First steps can be easy with more than 18,000 American Heart Association Walking Paths and easy to join or create Walking Clubs across the country. In addition to National Walking Day, other key milestone dates, such as National Eating Healthy Day on Nov. 7, will be used to report out the total number of calories collected at the Heart Walks across the country on the 'Big Ticker' counter for the 'Billion Calorie Count-UP.' The American Heart Association teamed up with Olympic Gold Medalist Jennie Finch to launch this initiative," Cruz wrote in an email.
