Three new exhibits to open at Art and Culture Center

The Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, 1650 Harrison St., will open three new exhibits showcasing the works of Priyadarsini Ray and Beatriz Monteavaro, Sri Prabha and Monica Uszerowicz. The exhibitions will all open on Sept. 6, following an artists' reception.

Uszerowicz's "It's Okay to Cry" features photography in a collective narrative. She is from Miami. Ray and Monteavaro curated "Echoes Myron," a showcase of art and music, and Prabha's "Outpost" is a collection of mixed media of inspirations by space, biology and exploration.

Hollywood police opens new ecomonic crime department

The Hollywood Police Department recently announced the opening of a new economic crime unit. The new unit will focus on educating the public and solving economic crimes such as fraud, identity theft or forgery, among others.

The office, located at the West Network Center, 1109 N. 69th Way, will also serve as an outreach center for Hollywood residents who may be victims of economic crimes. The economic unit will include a sergeant and two detectives.

The office will be open to the public on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesdays from noon to 8 p.m. Call 954-967-4411 or 954-967-4422 for more information.

Hallandale PAL hosts poker tourney on Aug. 23

The Hallandale Beach Police Athletic League will host its fourth annual benefit Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 23.

The poker tournament will be at Mardi Gras Casino, 831 N. Federal Highway in Hallandale Beach. Registration and dinner begins at 5:30 p.m., and the tournament will follow from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Hollywood chamber to host customer service seminar

The Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and Sheridan Technical College will team up to host a two-day Art of Customer Service seminar on Monday, Aug. 18 and Wednesday, Aug. 20. Each session will be two hours. The event will feature training sessions to learn principles of customer service and better communication skills.

Attendees will earn a certificate of completion after the seminar. The Art of Customer Service will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on both days. The event is limited to 20 people, so RSVP in advance.

Pop-up gallery to open in Dania Beach

Dania Beach City Hall will be the new home for a pop-up fine art exhibit by Deborah Wolford. Her art project is entitled "Enlivening Dania Beach's Empty Storefronts." Wolford is a fine arts nature and wildlife photographer.

The pop-up gallery will open on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 5:30 p.m. during a special ceremony at City Hall, 100 W. Dania Beach Blvd. The event runs until 7 p.m.
