Hollywood mural project welcomes new artist

The London Police, an internationally known duo, will join the Downtown Hollywood Mural Project. Chaz and Bob Gibson, also known as the London Police, will create the 12th mural in the downtown area.

The London Police will host a live painting performance, beginning their creation on the west-facing wall of 1909 Harrison St. The community is invited to come out and watch the performance from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.

The Downtown Hollywood Mural Project is finishing its second year. Including London Police, there are 11 artists in the movement.

Hallandale PAL to host fundraiser antique show

The Hallandale Beach Police Athletic League will host its annual Fall Antique Show. It's one of the organization's leading fundraisers.

The show will be Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cultural Community Center, 410 SE Third St.

Hallandale to host Patriots Day event

Hallandale Beach will celebrate Patriots Day in a ceremony of remembrance. Join city officials, police officers and fire rescue personnel for the ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 11.

The ceremony is from 9 to 10 a.m. and will take place at Hallandale Beach Police-Rescue Headquarters, 121 SW Third St.

Ground broken on new Dania development

Ground was broken Wednesday on the Place at Dania Beach, a mixed-use development on Dania Beach Boulevard.

The Place at Dania Beach will include 144 residential units, 9,500 square feet of retail space and a parking garage for 241 cars. There will also be a recreation room, gym, rooftop pool and space for retail businesses and restaurants.

The project is expected to be completed in 12 to 16 months. AHS Development Group in Miami is overseeing the project.

Hollywood YMCA offers lifeguard classes

The Greater Hollywood YMCA is offering several Save a Life programs this fall.

For teens interested in becoming lifeguards at area pools or beaches, the YMCA is offering American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification for age 15 and older. Participants will learn the skills and tests necessary to receive certification. The Hollywood YMCA is also offering first aid, CPR and AED classes for teens age 15 and older.

The YMCA is also looking for teens ages 14-18 interested in becoming volunteer swim instructor assistants. The position will work alongside swim instructors and help with the daily set-up of the pool deck.
