Gulfstream offers free summer music series

The Village at Gulfstream Park invites music lovers to Music in the Park. The free outdoor summer music series hosts concerts each Wednesday and Saturday through the end of August.

Enjoy styles like blues, classic rock, country and Latin in Champions Plaza. Additionally, several restaurants are offering happy hour specials during each concert.

Music in the Park is free to the public. The Village at Gulfstream Park is at 501 S. Federal Highway in Hallandale Beach.

Local children can get free immunizations

For several dates in August, families are invited to bring children to a free back-to-school immunization clinic at Lauderhill Mall.

The Florida Department of Health in Broward County is offering free immunizations for children up to age 18. The free immunizations will be offered Aug. 2-6, 8, 11-13, 15 and 18-19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Immunizations will be given from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 14.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Families should also remember to bring immunization records.

Hollywood extends deadline for neighborhood challenge

Hollywood's Great Neighborhood Challenge II has seen a surge in participation. Because of the interest in this summer's challenge, the city has extended the deadline to 3 p.m. Sept. 2.

Businesses and homeowners, as well as neighborhood associations, still have time to enter their improvement projects. The city is awarding prizes from $100 to $2,500 for the most visibly improved properties in each qualifying neighborhood throughout the city. Three eligible neighborhoods will be selected to receive up to $25,000 to improve a public space.

Hollywood ArtWalk is Saturday

The Downtown Hollywood ArtWalk returns this Saturday, July 19. See artists at work and observe the beautiful murals that adorn the buildings in downtown Hollywood.

The ArtWalk features local, regional and international artists along Hollywood Boulevard and Harrison Street. The free event is from 7 to 10 p.m.

Hollywood officials cut ribbon at Port Everglades facility

Hollywood officials, including Vice Mayor Patricia Asseff and commissioners Peter Hernandez and Richard Blattner, were on hand for the recent ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new Florida East Coast Railway Intermodal Container Transfer Facility in Port Everglades.

The 43-acre facility increases FEC’s available intermodal capacity from 100,000 to 450,000 lifts a year. Additionally, the new near-dock location will improve transfer of containers.
