Playthings for Pups event planned in Hollywood

A benefit for the Humane Society is set for noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at Whiskey Tango, 1903 Hollywood Blvd.

The Playthings for Pups event will feature a puppy kissing booth, dog adoptions, raffles and more.

Cost to attend the event is one new dog toy. For more information, call 954-925-2555.

Black History Month event planned in Hollywood

Early Head Start program applications being accepted

The first application period for the Broward County Public Schools Head Start and Early Head Start programs is under way and will run through Friday, Feb. 24.

Applications will be accepted at six locations throughout Broward County, including Bethune Elementary, 2400 Meade St. and West Hollywood Elementary, 6301 Hollywood Blvd.

A second application period is scheduled for March 20–April 5.

The district's Head Start program serves 3- and 4-year-old children and offers a full day of educational activities. Head Start services include dental, health, nutrition, mental health and family support. The Early Head Start Program provides services to pregnant women, infants and toddlers.

Families must meet the income eligibility requirements as determined by the Department of Health & Human Services 2012 Poverty Guidelines. Families of children with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival planned in Hollywood

Applications for parade floats and other entries are now being accepted for Hollywood's annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival.

The event is set for noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 11; the parade route is from Hollywood Boulevard to Harrison Street between 19th and 21st avenues.
