Hollywood Beach renourishment update

I recently attended a packed meeting on beach renourishment at the Hollywood Beach Culture and Community Center. (A previous renourishment project was completed two years ago, but there’s still a huge erosion problem.)

Here’s what Mayor Peter Bober had to say:

“For Hollywood Beach, the number one threat in both the short and long term is the erosion of our beach sand. This is an issue that will impact our way of life if we don’t take action to protect our beaches now.”

Residents and city and county officials discussed possible plans of action to combat the problem. To find out more, read Sunday's (Nov. 16) Community News inside the Sun Sentinel.

And let us know in the comment section what you think can or should be done to combat the problem.

But on the brighter side, the good people at Jaxson’s Ice Cream Parlor also attended the meeting and were kind enough to give out free sundaes to everyone there.

I made it my business, in the interest of journalistic integrity of course, to sample one. There were four ice-cream flavors to choose from: vanilla, strawberry, chocolate and Oreo cookie.

I would normally opt for vanilla. (I like my ice cream just like I like my pizza: plain. No rocky road and crème dulce ice cream or mushroom onion jalapeño peppers pizza for me. Yuck!)

If I'm feeling especially adventurous, then strawberry would have won out. But for some strange reason, I gravitated to the Oreo cookie ice cream.

And, I'm happy to report, I was not disappointed.
