Washington Park Community Harvest

fg_titlepumpkin.gif

The Washington Park Homeowners Association is hosting a Community Thanksgiving Harvest on Nov. 25.
The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Washington Park Community Center, 5199 Pembroke Road in Hollywood.
What's on the menu?
I spoke to Nadine McCrea, president of the association. She tells me that there will be, among other items: turkey, collard greens, string beans, mashed potatoes, candied yams, mac n' cheese, and a variety of desserts.
McCrea, who specializes in Southern corn bread, said this is not a catered event. This is down-home, stick-to-your ribs fanfare.
"We always cook our own food," McCrea said. "Once you eat it, you will love it!"
Event sponsors are the Kiwanis Club of West Hollywood, the city's parks and police departments, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Memorial Healthcare System, Nova Southeastern University College of Allied Health and Nursing, Community Enhancement Collaboration, and Children and Families Services/Million Meals Committee.
Two goodies to mention:
1) A free bag of groceries is provided to those who pre-register (while supplies last).
2) Raffle tickets are on sale for gas card prizes. First place wins a $100 gas card.

And for those who can't make it and are planning a meatless Thanksgiving dinner, don't despair!
Here's a quick link to check out if you're fresh out of ideas. It’s loaded with other links so that you can plan a delicious and meatless meal.
Feel free to share your Thanksgiving menu and recipes in the comment section below.
