Youth safety event staged at Hollywood school

On Friday, Hollywood Central Elementary School students participated in a bicycle, pedestrian and traffic safety event.

The event was sponsored by the Optimist Club "Can-Am" of Hollywood and featured a number of Hollywood-based organizations providing safety information to students.

Students participated in a bicycle safety rodeo, where they wore helmets and practiced a variety of basic riding skills, including going over bridges, slaloming between cones, throwing a newspaper in a basket and obeying traffic signs.

The Optimist Club donated more than 40 new bicycles and helmets to students in need.
