Candy Cane Parade set in Hollywood

The 54th Annual Candy Cane Parade will light up the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec 5.

Thousands will line the Broadwalk and watch the parade make its way from Scott Street south to Harrison. The theme for this year’s event is “Bells and Bows on the Broadwalk.”

Free public shuttles will be offered from the Fred Lippman Multipurpose Center, 2030 Polk St., to Johnson Street and A1A from 5 to 11 p.m. Downtown parking rates apply. Complimentary bleacher seating is available at most street ends abutting the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk from Garfield to Polk street.

Cash for Trash in Hollywood Lakes

Residents can lend a hand to the Hollywood Lakes Civic Association by beautifying the neighborhood through trash collection.

With each trash bag collected, the neighborhood association earns $5 toward its association fund.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. Volunteers will meet at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, 1650 Harrison St.

Vintage Rock Project set to perform in Hollywood

The Hollywood West Concert Series continues from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28.

The Vintage Rock Project, a classic rock band, is set to perform at the Boulevard Heights Amphitheater, 6770 Garfield St.

Pearls of Wisdom event staged in Hollywood

The American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants recently had a networking event at Vino Wine Bar in Hollywood.

Their “Pearls of Wisdom” event offered advice on women’s personal and financial challenges and raised $1,000 for the Florida Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

More than 40 professional women were in attendance.

Hollywood looks to add intern

The city of Hollywood is seeking a college intern for its intergovernmental affairs department.

The selected candidate will work on documenting and researching the city’s green practices and initiatives for the Florida Green Building Certification application.

Candidates should be at least 18 and majoring in urban planning, engineering or environmental studies.

Turkey Trot planned in Hollywood

The Greater Hollywood YMCA Family Center is planning its third annual Turkey Trot, set for 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21.

The 5K run benefits those in need for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The cost for registration is 5 pounds of canned or dry goods for YMCA members and $10 plus 5 pounds of canned or dry goods for nonmembers.

Recycling drop-off event set in Hollywood

Broward County, in partnership with the city of Hollywood, is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Drop-Off-Event next month.

Items will be collected from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 at the Anne Kolb Nature Center, 751 Sheridan St.

Broward residents may drop off household hazardous waste and electronics for free, such as paint, motor oil, pesticides, cell phones, household cleaners, lawn and pool chemicals, mercury thermometers, televisions, computers, monitors, CFL bulbs, auto batteries, and more.

Proof of Broward residency is required.

Veterans Day Salute set in Hallandale Beach

Hallandale Beach is having its Veterans Day Salute on Wednesday, Nov. 11, and is inviting everyone to come out and honor the men and women who have served in the armed forces.

Program schedule includes:

9 a.m. -- Placement of flags at the Hallandale Beach Cemetery, 801 NW Sixth Ave.

10 a.m. -- Coffee at the Cultural Community Center, 401 SE Third St.

11 a.m. -- Ceremony at the Cultural Community Center and the Veterans Monument, 400 S. Federal Highway

Benefit car wash a success in Hallandale

On Friday, a benefit car wash hosted by Vice Mayor William Julian raised more than $3,200 for Michael Brewer.

Brewer is the teenager who was attacked and burned in Deerfield Beach by fellow students.

The Kiwanis Club, several city departments and the Hallandale High Academy Ambassadors also helped wash cars.
