Flood damage information for Hallandale and Hollywood

flood.jpg

Damage assessment teams were deployed yesterday in Hollywood to assess areas affected by last week's flooding.

Residents who have experienced flood damage to their property should call 954-967-HELP (4357). The information will be forwarded to the Broward County Emergency Management Agency for review to determine the need for individual assistance Federal Emergency Management Agency.

In Hallandale Beach, city and county officials, along with FEMA individual and small business assistance teams, have been surveying affected areas. Preliminary damage assessments will be submitted to Gov. Charlie Crist today.

Officials are hoping that the governor will issue an executive order requesting federal disaster assistance for the city.

FEMA’s evaluation and decision may take several weeks, so city officials are urging Hallandale Beach residents to notify their flood insurance providers immediately to begin processing home flood damage claims. Residents should also contact their auto insurance providers to process claims regarding damage to their vehicles.

If FEMA declares Broward County a disaster area, then eligible applicants may apply for individual assistance grants, which offer various forms of monies for recovery. Residents can call the Broward County Call Center at 311 for additional updates.
