Miramar participating in code and safety expo

Miramar will be one of several cities participating tomorrow in the 2012 Code Awareness & Safety Expo.

The free expo runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the War Memorial Auditorium, 800 NE Eighth St. in Fort Lauderdale. The expo will offer the opportunity to meet with city engineers and building inspectors, along with classes on topics like permitting, building codes and code violations.

Its great that the city takes the time to educate the public on codes and required permits. Unfortunately the majority of people aren't aware of building department requirements and end up with hefty fines. Sometimes they inherit these Building Code Violations because they don't know what to look for when shopping for homes.
