Citizens' Police Academy accepting applications

The Miramar Police Department is accepting applications for its upcoming Citizens' Police Academy.

The free 14-week course begins Aug. 14 and runs through Nov. 13, with meetings from 7 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday. The course covers topics like child abuse investigations, burglary investigations and DUI enforcement. The course also includes a demonstration by the K-9 unit and an opportunity to ride along with an officer on his or her patrol shift.

Potential students can get their application online and must submit to a criminal history background check.
