Plantation Fire Captain Randall Pettitt recently receive the Department’s Meritorious Service award.

On October 30, 2012, while on his way to dinner with his wife, Captain Pettitt witnessed a car go into the lake at Peters and Pine Island Road, in Plantation.

Captain Pettitt pulled off the road and contacted Plantation’s Dispatch Center via radio. Not knowing the condition of the vehicle, or what injuries the driver had, Pettitt made the decision to enter the water and safely remove her to the bank.

A Plantation Rescue arrived shortly thereafter and the woman was transported to Westside Regional Medical Center where she recovered. For his quick actions, while placing his own safety in jeopardy, Captain Pettitt was awarded the Plantation Fire Department’s Meritorious Service Award.

DHL Express to try different method of delivery in London during Olympic Games

Concerned about delays in shipping to and from London during the Olympic Games this summer? Shipping company DHL Express thinks they have the answer – joggers.

In partnership with JogPost, DHL Express is adding “jogging” couriers to its workforce to address two logistical challenges: maneuvering around traffic congestion and accessing those areas temporarily blocked from vehicle traffic during the games.

Traffic is estimated to increase on London’s core pickup and delivery routes by more than 30%, according to Ian Clough, CEO of DHL Express U.S.

Throughout the Games, DHL Express will have a dedicated Operations Control Center working around the clock that will constantly monitor issues, such as changes to the network and localized congestion; this enables DHL to instantly adapt network plans and maintain its high service quality. DHL Express Service Centers in London will also provide extended business hours to ensure customers can send and pick up shipments when is most convenient.
