Be wary of a 'Recycling Letter'

The letter states that the state of Florida has passed a law that allows fines to be levied against homeowners who fail to follow the mandatory recycling policies and that the department is authorized to “seek compensatory damages for recycling shortfalls.”

Residents are advised to disregard the letter, as it is either a hoax or a scam.

Pompano Beach to implement free chlorination

If Pompano Beach residents soon begin sensing that their water smells or taste funny, don’t be alarmed; it’s part of the city’s semi-annual water maintenance practice.

In an effort to improve the water supply, the City of Pompano Beach Utilities Department will begin free chlorine dosing of its entire water distribution system beginning Feb 23.

The chlorination process lasts for four weeks until March 23, and is a common maintenance practice that occurs semi-annually. Residents may experience a different taste and smell of the water, but it will remain safe to drink, bathe and cook with.

The process is performed in compliance with all Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Broward County Health Department regulations.

Pompano Beach approves public art concept

To help bolster the city’s public art displays, the Pompano Beach City Commission recently voted to accept the concept of a public art program.

The art concept aims to improve typical public spaces by placing works of art around the civic areas.

Volunteer coordinator, Bill Venz, along with City Manager Keith Cahdwell have begun researching other cites that have used similar public art programs to enhance their city’s appeal. Pompano Beach is also investigating ways to fund the program, while not impacting the city’s budget.
