Charity seeks donations for U.S. soldiers

American Moms for Soldiers, a non-profit organization that provides donations to soldiers in the U.S. military, who have no family, is seeking assistance from residents.

The organization is in need of hygiene and comfort items, snack foods and over-the-counter medications, which will be shipped to the soldiers serving overseas.

Karla Smiley, who works for Pompano Pediatrics, started the nonprofit after hearing that many soldiers who have no families, do not receive care packages when mail call comes in.

Donations or checks can be mailed to American Moms for Soldiers, 3350 NW 66th St. in Fort Lauderdale. For more information, call 954-232-2432.
