Pompano Beach to rename pool after longtime community members

Tomorrow, Pompano Beach residents Purcell Houston and Samuel Sworn will be honored for their commitment to the local community. Both spent more than 30 years mentoring local youth in various athletic fields.

At 9 a.m. June 13 at Mitchell/Moore Park, 901 NW 10 St. the pool will be renamed the Houston/Sworn Aquatic Center during a ribbon cutting ceremony.

After residents requested the name change to honor the men, the City Commission adopted a Resolution on April 28 to rename the pool after Houston and Sworn.
