Pompano Beach-based American Diabetes Wholesale picks essay winner

American Diabetes Wholesale in Pompano Beach, which launched the GlucoStories Share Your Story Contest in May to let others affected with the disease know that they’re not alone, recently picked its winner.

Brian Harris, a 37 year-old from Iowa was chosen as the winner after Harris detailed his story of suffering a heart attack at 33 and then being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Harris will be flown to Miami to meet Charlie Kimball, a race car driver in the Firestone Indy Lights racing series who also has diabetes. Harris will receive a tour of Kimball’s race car, attend the final race of the series Oct. 9 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway and hear Kimball’s story of how he’s dealing with the disease while racing around a track at nearly 200 mph.
