Fundraiser is chance to 'tip' BSO

On March 22, about 10 Broward Sheriff's Office deputies from the area will don aprons and carry trays as part of a fundraiser to benefit Special Olympic athletes.
Known as the Tip-A-Cop fundraiser, the event at Bru's Room in Pompano Beach — which will run from 5 to 9 p.m. — will help benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics on April 26.

Sheriff's deputies will shadow the wait staff, helping to run food and fill drink orders, all while collecting tips separately for their cause.

The money raised will go toward the Torch Run, which starts in Hallandale Beach and stretches to Deerfield Beach. Special Olympics athletes will also participate in the run, and will then go on to compete with other Special Olympics athletes nationwide.

The Broward Sheriff's Office will host another Tip-A-Cop fundraiser at Bru's Room in Coconut Creek on April 5, Huerta said. The Pompano event begins at 5 p.m. at the Bru's Room at 235 S. Federal Highway.
