Register to vote for the March 10 elections

Broward Governmental Center wants to reminds eligible voters they must register to vote by Feb. 9 for the March 10 municipal election.

The voter registration books will close at midnight Feb. 9, and anyone turning in an application to register to vote for the first time in Florida after that date will not be eligible to vote on March 10 and will not receive a voter information card until after the election.

Those registered to vote but considering a party change should do so before the books close. Florida Law does not permit the Supervisor of Elections division to process party changes after the books are closed. Such requests will not be processed until after the election, and applicants will not receive a new voter identification card until after March 10.

All requests for address changes within the county, name changes, replacement cards, etc. will continue to be processed even after the books close.

For more information, contact the Broward Governmental Center, 115 S. Andrews Ave. Room 102, in Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-357-7050 or visit www.browardsoe.org.

Sunrise to use chlorine in drinking water in February

Feb. 1 through Feb. 21, Sunrise's Utilities Department will be using "free" chlorine in its drinking water treatment system to provide additional protection against bacteria.

This temporary treatment of the water system is a common practice for water suppliers that use a chlorine water treatment method, and it's mandated by the Broward County Health Department.

While it does not cause any adverse health effects, some in Sunrise, Weston, Southwest Ranches and parts of Davie might notice a slight change in the taste, odor or color of the water during this time.

For more information, call the Utilities Department at 954-888-6000.
