Local student wins DAR Good Citizens Essay Contest

A Sunrise resident and Piper High School student is among the winners of this year’s DAR Good Citizens Essay Contest.

Cynthia Lynn Rogers was selected as one of the winners by the Broward County Regents Council of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Among the winners are also Plantation resident and Nova Southeastern University student Christen Brown and Hallandale High School student Jasmine Brown.

The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.

It consists of two parts. The first part is a personal essay that can be completed at home and where the student describes how he or she has tried to manifest the qualities of a good citizen. The second part is an essay that is administered under supervision.

The DAR is a patriotic organization that promotes education, historic preservation and patriotism in communities across America. Members are women at least 18 years old who have a lineal ancestor who served the patriotic cause during the Revolutionary War.
