RPB High School's winter concert is Dec. 9

ROYAL PALM BEACH - The Royal Palm Beach Music Department is having its winter concert Tuesday starting at 7 p.m. at the school, 10600 Okeechobee Blvd. The concert will include the entire fine arts department. Tickets are $7 at the door.
The concert follows a series of fundraisers within the last week to help raise money for the struggling music department.
"We started out with zero money this year," Chorus Director David Sommer said. "From my experience you cannot survive without funds and a strong parent base."
Sommer was recently hired as the new chorus director and is ready to take the chorus in a new direction.
"We wanted to take the program in a new direction. I think the students need to go back to the foundation and build from that. If you have a classical foundation you can pretty much perform anything," he said. "We would like to attain academy status. If we can't do that we'd like to come to a level to compete with schools that do have academies and magnet programs."
