Audi Wins CV Whitney Cup
WELLINGTON - Audi rode away as the champion of the CV Whitney Cup after defeating Lechuza Caracas 8-7 at the International Polo Club Palm Beach.
Audi's 10-goaler, Facundo Pieres, scored six of Audi's eight goals.
The C.V. Whitney Cup has been played since 1979. It's named after two 1930s polo patrons Cornelius Vanderbilt “Sonny” Whitney and his cousin John Hay Whitney.
The next tournament to be played at the polo club will be the Piaget Gold Cup, which starts Saturday, March 14 when Lechuza Caracas takes on White Birch at 1 p.m.
The Piaget Gold Cup was first played in 1974 in Illinois. It made its way to Florida in 1979. The tournament concludes Sunday, March 29.
