Tragedy strikes polo club: 21 horses die

WELLINGTON - Twenty-one horses have mysteriously died after they collapsed Sunday afternoon before the start of a polo match at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington. The cause of death is still unknown. Necropsies will be conducted by a state veterinarian and preliminary findings are expected late Monday night or Tuesday.

All 21 horses were a part of the the Venezuelan-based Lechuza Caracas polo team. Lechuza was scheduled to play as part of the U.S. Open Polo Championship. The game was canceled and an exhibition game was played instead.
