Councilwoman Lizbeth Benacquisto announces State Senate campaign

WELLINGTON - Wellington Councilwoman Lizbeth Benacquisto announced her bid for State Senate District 27 Friday. District 27 is currently held by Dave Aronberg who recently decided to run for Attorney General in 2010.

Benacquisto said in a press release:

"It has been an incredible privilege to serve the residents of my community as a councilwoman for the past seven years. I am humbled and extremely grateful for the support I've received for my candidacy for the Florida Senate District 27. In today’s economic climate, I believe we need more people in Tallahassee who know how to get Florida back on track by creating more jobs and bringing new business to Florida. I will work hard to improve Florida's educational system and guard against wasteful government spending. As a Florida Senator, I will seek new approaches to make Florida's resources work for all of us ---residents and business alike."

District 27 includes parts of Palm Beach, Hendry, Glades, Charlotte and Lee counties.

Ms. Benacquisto claims "we need more people in Tallahassee who know how to get Florida back on track". She is correct; however, she is not one of them. In fact, I believe she has helped run it off the track. She has been right on board with most of the Wellington council to build, build, build regardless of the consequences for existing residents and the environment. How about all those empty stores all around Wellington Green and up and down 441? Another example, I spoke at a council meeting in opposition of the big design center, ultimately approved by the council, planned for 441 midway between Forest Hill and Lake Worth Rd. Regardless of the fact that this design center is just on the south side of a busy middle school and the two communities closest to the center strongly oppose it due to concerns about increased traffic and 18-wheelers entering the highway in an already seriously congested area, Ms. Benacquisto insisted this design center is for the benefit of Wellington. Who in Wellington? Anyone who travels in the area, especially on 441, already knows of the traffic nightmares. I cannot believe the average Wellington resident lies awake at night dreaming of yet another furniture store. Who are you representing there Ms. Benacquisto? No thanks. I'll take my support for a candidate elsewhere.
