Weston hospital hosting 'Girls Night Out'

Join Cleveland Clinic Florida for its “Girls Night Out,” set for 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the Cleveland Clinic Florida Jagelman Conference Center, 2950 Cleveland Clinic Blvd. in Weston.

The event is dedicated to women’s health and designed to educate participants and encourage healthy lifestyle choices. Physicians will be speaking on a variety of topics, including breast cancer, cervical cancer and cosmetic surgery. There also will be a variety of interactive activities and pampering.

First Weston Philharmonic concert of season nearing

The Weston Philharmonic will host its first concert of the season, Cirque de la Symphonie presented by Symphony of the Americas, at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at Cypress Bay High School.

Community Bank, 1504 Weston Road, is selling tickets, as is the Weston Community Center, 20201 Saddle Club Road. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door, $10 and $15 for students.

Weston gymnast named to U.S. Junior National team

David Jessen, who trains at TAG USA in Weston, has been named to the 2014-15 U.S. Junior National team.

He placed third all-around in the P&G Championships in Pittsburgh and will now train four times a year at the Colorado Springs National Training Center with other Olympic hopefuls. His mom, Hana, was on the Olympic team for Czechoslovakia in 1984 and has joined the gym's coaching staff.

FPL upgrade project in Weston

Florida Power & Light is working to strengthen the main power line serving the Vista Park Boulevard area of Weston.

The project is expected to run through December. Areas include Vista Park Boulevard from Manatee Isles Drive to Bonaventure Boulevard and Griffin Road from Southwest 190th to 178th avenues.

Enter financial literacy essay contest for chance at $1,000

BankUnited is teaming with Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brian Hartline to promote financial literacy to teens with 4 Downs for Finance, which kicked off its third season when the team kicked off its season against the New England Patriots.

Florida students ages 13-18 can register at www.4downsforfinance.com to access age-appropriate money tips and submit an essay telling why they think saving is important. Everyone who enters will have a chance to win a football autographed by Hartline and have his or her name read live on the radio during a game broadcast. One lucky student will win a $1,000 cash prize and a visit with Hartline.
