Free residential bulk pick-up starts April 15

Bulk trash pick-up will be taking place in the Weston from Wednesday, April 15 through Saturday, April 18.

For single-family homes, bulk trash collection will correspond with your regularly scheduled collection day (Wednesday-Friday), and all bulk trash must be placed curbside by 7 a.m.

Your bulk collection day is your regular garbage collection day only. If items are not collected by the end of the day, they will be collected the following day; it is dependent upon the volume of items placed out by the community.

For multi-family units with Dumpster service (apartments and condominiums), place items alongside the community’s Dumpster by 7 a.m. Saturday, April 18.

Hazardous waste materials cannot be accepted.

Watch Kung Fu Panda for free at Weston Regional Park

Weston residents voted, and the winner for April's free Moonlight Movie in the Park is Kung-Fu Panda. The showing takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 11 at Weston Regional Park, 20200 Saddle Club Road.

The whole family will be entertained when Po the Panda, the laziest of all the animals in the Valley of Peace, unwittingly becomes the chosen one when enemies threaten their way of life.

Kids under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for a relaxing night out.

The full-length feature film will be projected onto a giant inflatable screen at the event stage.

Cleveland Clinic hosts free Community Health Fair April 4

Cleveland Clinic is offering its seventh annual free Community Health Fair 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 4 at the Jagelman Conference Center, 2950 Cleveland Clinic Blvd.

The event includes on-site health screenings, medical exhibits, HeartSaver courses, raffles, giveaways. Special appearances with Miami Dolphin players and cheerleaders also are scheduled.

Sign-ups have begun for a number of YMCA sports for the upcoming spring season.

Vista Park Boulevard and Vista Park closed March 27

The entire length of Vista Park Boulevard will be closed to traffic 6 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, March 27.

Vista Park Boulevard runs from Bonaventure Boulevard to Manatee Isles Drive. Vista Park, located along Vista Park Boulevard, will also be closed from 6 a.m.-5 p.m.

With public schools closed, the Broward Sheriff’s Office will be taking the opportunity to utilize the Cypress Bay High School campus to conduct a Comprehensive Training Exercise, which will include SWAT teams from multiple agencies.

Residents residing in the Courtyard at the Grove, who utilize the Vista Park Boulevard exit, will be allowed to exit west to Manatee Isles Drive.

Meeting set to address resident concerns regarding roadway project

The city is having a community awareness meeting from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 at the Weston Branch Library's Multipurpose Room, 4205 Bonaventure Blvd.

Florida Department of Transportation representatives will be on hand to answer questions and address concerns regarding the State Road 84 improvement project from Glades Parkway and Weston Road.

Project highlights include:

* Mill and resurface the existing pavement west of Glades Parkway to west of Weston Road.
* Maintain existing turn lanes
* Existing landscaping will be maintained
* Installation of new pavement markings along project limits
* Estimated construction start date: January 2010
* Estimated construction completion: February 2011
* Project cost: about $4.6 million

Food drive at Regional Park

Weston joins Broward County’s “March on Hunger” with a food drive to help the Cooperative Feeding Program and the Daily Bread Food Bank.

The drive runs Saturday, March 14 through Tuesday, March 31 at Weston Regional Park, 20200 Saddle Club Road. Hours are 3-8 p.m. Monday -Friday and noon-5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Canned meats or fish with pull-top cans or packages, peanut butter, jelly, soups (pull tops or instant individual entrees), cereal, shelf milk, pasta, rice, dry beans, baby formula, baby food and cereals, diapers and wipes, and canned vegetables are items of particular need. Any non-perishable foods are accepted. No clothing or other items will be accepted.

A trailer will be staffed to accept donations in the park. The collection vehicle will be just inside the park entrance – make the first left at the basketball courts.

St. Patrick's Day 4 Leaf Clover Tennis Tournament hits the courts March 13

The St. Patrick's Day 4 Leaf Clover Tennis Tournament takes place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 13 at the Weston Tennis Center, 16451 Racquet Club Road.

The round-robin tennis tournament will be followed by a barbecue with Irish beer. Pros will play into the round robin to make all games competitive. There will also be a junior clinic so the whole family can celebrate St. Patrick's Day together.
