Starting Oct. 1, Weston residents can put all their recyclables together.

They can mix their paper, metal, plastic bottles and glass in one bin.

The Weston Fire Department has been awarded a $21,466 grant from Allianze Life Insurance Company of North America.

The money will go to the purchasing of a 3M Opticom GPS Priority Control System to be installed in each fire truck/rescue vehicle, which works with the PreEmption equipment that are going in traffic signals. The system will activate a signal before the emergency vehicle arrives at intersections and activate the signal to clear the approach of the emergency vehicle.

In celebration, there will be a ceremony at 4 pm. Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Weston Fire Station #81, 17350 Royal Palm Blvd. Representatives from Allianz Life, Chief John Frailey, BSO Fire Rescue, City Manager John Flint and the City Commission will be on hand. A check presentation will be made to Frailey and city officials.

It's time for the annual showcase presented by the Arts Council of Greater Weston, set for 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Hyatt Regency Bonaventure, 250 Racquet Club Road.

The event is free and will feature nationally known guitarist Larry Hoppen of the group Orleans.

Guests are invited to partake in gourmet desserts, wine and champagne to celebrate the official start of the 2009-2010 season of arts and culture in Weston.

Exhibitors will give attendees a sneak peak of upcoming cultural and entertainment activities going on in their neighborhood.

Original paintings by schools and local artists will also be on display. Members of the Weston Art Guild will have original art in various mediums, including painting, photography and sculpture.

Earlier today (Thursday), there was a 24-inch sewer force main break on Saddle Club Road, between Lakeview Drive and The Lakes Plaza.

Traffic is down to one lane in each direction as there is an excavation is currently under way.

The Florida Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the Southwest Regional Library, 16835 Sheridan St. in Pembroke Pines.

The meeting is in relation to the Project Development and Environment Study for I-75 looking to find improvements to relieve existing and future congestion by providing additional capacity and transportation models from the Palmetto Expressway to I-595, as well as a transit analysis in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Weston begins this year's series of Free Moonlight Movies in the Park at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at Weston Regional Park.

A movie will be shown each month through April, kicking off with “Night at the Museum 2.” The film will be projected onto a giant inflatable screen on the event stage inside the park.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets. Kids under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
