Chlorination to start next week in Weston

Weston residents may notice a slight change in the taste, odor or color of their water June 28-July 26.

During this time, the Sunrise Utility Department, which provides water to the city, will use "free" chlorine in the drinking water treatment system to provide additional protection against bacteria.

Free chlorination is a process that cleanses the water purification system and protects against bacteria getting into the system.

This temporary treatment of the water system is a common practice for water suppliers that use a chlorine water treatment method. This periodic program is mandated by the Broward County Health Department.
